Install Atom Editor on Linux Mint 19
Atom Editor is one of the advanced, modular, hackable and open-source editors for developers. Atom Editor is created by Github and it is designed to be deeply customizable. In this tutorial, you are going to learn how to install Atom Editor on Linux Mint 19.
Before you start to install Atom on Linux Mint 19. You must have the non-root user account on your system with sudo privileges.
Start to install Atom Editor
Atom Editor is not available in Linux Mint 19 core repositories. You should first add the external
webupd8team repository to install Atom on Linux Mint.
Open the terminal by pressing
ctrl+Alt+t or by using
webupd8team repository to your Linux Mint System by using the following command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/atom
Now update the
apt package manager to get all latest repositories by typing the following command in the terminal:
sudo apt-get update
After executing the above commands successfully you can install
Atom Editor by using the following
sudo apt-get install atom
Launch Atom Editor
You can launch the Atom Editor by using the terminal or by using the Activities menu.
To launch Atom with terminal run following command in the terminal:
To launch Atom using
Activities just type
atom and click on the launcher icon.
Improve Performance of Atom Editor
To improve the performance of Atom Editor install the
gir1.2-gnomekeyring-1.0 package as suggested by
Atom Editor officially.
sudo apt-get install gir1.2-gnomekeyring-1.0
Install Atom Editor Beta Version
You can try the latest features of Atom Editor by using its
beta version but remember its not a stable version.
atom-beta type following command in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install atom-beta
