Install Deepin Desktop Environment on Ubuntu 18.04
Deepin is a default desktop environment for Deepin Linux Distribution. It is developed by a Chinese company Deeping Ltd. It is a sleekest and most beautiful and user-friendly desktop environment. Deepin comes with pre-installed Samba, Font Installer, Cloud Printing, and Application Store. In this tutorial, you are going to learn how to install Deepin Desktop Environment on Ubuntu 18.04.
Before you start to Install Deepin Desktop Environment. You must have the non-root user account on your system with sudo privileges.
Install Deepin Desktop Environment
The Deepin Desktop Environment package does not come in Ubuntu Global Repository. We should manually add a
leaeasy/dde repository to install Deepin Desktop.
First, open the Ubuntu Terminal by pressing
Run the following command to add
leaeasy/dde repository to Ubuntu:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:leaeasy/dde
Now update the
apt package manager index by typing following command in the terminal:
sudo apt update
Here to install Deepin Desktop Environment type following command in the terminal:
sudo apt install dde
Install Deepin File Manager
As we have installed Deepin Desktop Environment, We should also install Deepin File Manager.
To Install Deepin File Manager run following command:
sudo apt-get install dde-file-manager
Install Deepin GTK Theme
To get the look of Deepin Desktop Environment we should install Deepin GTK Theme. Install Deepin GTK Theme by using the following command:
sudo apt install deepin-gtk-theme
Launch Deepin Desktop Environment
Run the following command to reboot your system to make changes in effect:
