Install WebStorm on Ubuntu

WebStorm is an intelligent and fully featured IDE for JavaScript developed by JetBrains. It also provides support for Typescript, and CSS etc. You can also extend WebStorm features by using plugins. By using WebStorm plugins you can also get support for frameworks like Node.js, Angularjs etc. We can also use WebStorm for other programming languages like HTML, SQL, CSS and more. In this tutorial, you are going to learn how to install WebStorm on Ubuntu 18.04.


Before you start to install WebStorm on Ubuntu 18.04. You must have the non-root user account on your system with sudo privileges.

Install Snappy Package Manager

Snappy provides better package management support for Ubuntu 18.04. It’s quick and easy to use. To install Snappy package manager type following command. If its already installed on the system skip to next step

NOTE: Ubuntu 18.04 may have already installed Snappy package manager.

sudo apt install snapd snapd-xdg-open

Install WebStorm

Now to download and installed WebStorm snap package run following command. It will take some time to download and install package.

sudo snap install webstorm --classic

After successfully downloading and installing the package you will get the following output.

webstorm 2018.2.4 from 'jetbrains' installed

Start WebStorm

After successful installation to start WebStorm via terminal run following command.


You can also start WebStorm from activities on Ubuntu. Typing WebStorm will show you WebStorm icon.

You will get the following output for setting up the initial configuration.
